The village of Tolo was settled in 1834 by Cretan fighters during the revolution by decision of the first governor of Greece I. Kappodistrias. The old fishing village was founded on a beach that stretches along the beautiful southeast coast of the Argolic gulf start with the name 'Minoa' taking it's name from the King of Crete. The surviving refugees in the region established the charming fishing village that would later be known as Tolo in 1916 following the recapture of Crete. With its natural beauty and convenient location close to nearby archaeological sites, Tolo in the middle of the 20th century became a tourist destination and the tourism industry started to develop as it turned into a well-known summer resort welcoming visitors from all over the world.
Nowadays Tolo is a hub for tourists from all over the world, as well as Greeks. Being close to Athens it is chosen by locals for weekend escapades and as their destination for summer holidays! Dotted with restaurants, cafes and bar all along the coast and the village's main road it provides the perfect scene for a relaxing vacation in Greece. Used at some point during Byzantine times as a place for people to avoid raids it was fortified, remains of which you can find even today visiting the island. Romvi in Tolo is also an ideal destination for a boat excursion, swim in it's clean beaches with crystal clear waters and enjoy the virgin beaches. Behind Romvi one can visit the islet of Daskaleio and the church of 'Zoodochou Pigis' used during the Ottoman rule. Koronisi island is closer to the coast of Tolo and is easy to visit with a pedaloe, canoe or boat rental. Decorated by a lovely, small church dedicated to the Apostles it grants the village an amazing view an atmosphere when the lights turn on at night. The church on the islet opens only for weddings or baptisms.
